About Nutrition for Learning

Established in 1997, Nutrition for Learning has been providing student nutrition programs in schools across Waterloo Region for 27 years. We envision a Waterloo Region where all students are nourished at school so they can learn, connect, participate, and thrive.

How it all began.

Nutrition for Learning started as a group of teachers, church groups, and community members that provided snacks and breakfast to children before and during the school day. In 1997, the group applied for and received charitable status and Nutrition for Learning was created. Within the first few years, six programs quickly grew to 40, and the rest is history!

Where we are now.

Nutrition for Learning programs are in the majority of schools serving Kindergarten to grade 12 students across Waterloo Region. Our programs are universally accessible, which means food is available to all students, without having to prove a need. Currently, Nutrition for Learning is in 175 schools across Waterloo Region.
